Modify "throttle" on a Razor Dirt Quad?
We bought this for our son and quickly realized it was way too fast for him. Trying to find a way to govern the speed on the thing.
Isn't Razor an electric quad?
Battery powered?
The throttle on those things ain't exactly a throttle.
It's a 2-Speed Electric switch.
Low-Speed and Hi-Speed.
It also actually functions as an ON/OFF switch .
When in "closed " position/NO throttle,,,it turns the power off.
The handbrake also does same thing,in addition to activating the brake.
................................................
Follow the black cable from the throttle to a white plastic multi-plug.
Disconnect that plug.
Remove the HI-Speed wire from the multi-plug,,
tape it WELL to insulate it.
Fold it back over itself,,and tape it to the cable
Then plug the throttle cable back in with only 3 wires in the Connector Block,,,and the Hi-Speed wire "dangling".

There's 4 wires coming from throttle.
Red,Yellow,Orange,White.
The "Speed Wires" are gonna be the Orange and White ones.
Which is HIGH SPEED,,and which is LOW,,,I do not know???
TRY THEM,,***one at a time***,,,and see how the quad acts.
Dont disconnect more than one ONE wire from the block at a time,,,so there's No Confusion which way they go.
The CORRECT wire is whenever Hi-Speed position "dissapears" and no longer functions.
Sorry,,I wish I could tell you precisely which wire.
Trial & Error will determine which of the 2,,,easy enough

Here's a picture of the Throttle and Connector Block.
Looking INTO the Connectror there is a small Tab .
You must press that sideways towards the Contact Blade to Unlock the Blade from the block.
The Wire then pulls out from the Rear of the block.
To Re-Install,,,simply push the Contact Blade into the block,,it will "snap" into place.
The lil' Lock tab must go in a certain direction,,or it wont latch in properly.

You can see that Latch Tab pretty clearly on the Upper Left contact blade.
Here's a picture of a bare Contact Tab so you can get an idea of what you're working with.

The Tab is rather springy,,,
Depress it with a small screwdriver to remove.
Sometimes you can "pinch it" with tweezers or small pliers.
**Do Not stick anything into OTHER connector block attatched to Quad's wiring.
Only the THROTTLE Cable,,and only after it's Disconnected.

What that will do is restrict it to Low Speed Only,,,which is pretty slow.
I DO NOT Know how it will act when throttle is turned "too far" to HI Speed position,,,with Hi disabled.
It will either make no difference and just stay on Low Speed,
I expect this is how it'll be.
or,,
POSSIBLY it will turn Off till throttle is turned back to LOW.
I Doubt it will act that way,,,it Shouldn't,,,but it's possible.

Disabling Hi-Speed is only practical way to Restrict them.
To RETURN HI-Speed Function when so desired,,,simply push the Wire back into the connector block.
