Where was the eastern front and what is it?
Where was the eastern front and what is it? WWI
The eastern front is a name given for the fight in the east of Europe, The eastern front was called so because when Hitler attacked the USSR (Soviet Russia) Stalin (USSR communist ruler) sent Millions and Millions of soldeirs to attack the Nazis, Hitlers armys swepts across the Eastern front killing Millions of innocent people and millions of USSR troops, they also lost Millions.
The most known battle on the eatern front was the battle of Stalingrad, wich was the most deadly battle that the world has ever seen. I think about one million died in that battle alone, Hitlers armys took the city after many days of bombing and killing the russian city and soldiers. (Stalingrad was so important because it was where all the oil was, wich hitler needed to carry the war on, it was alos important because it was named after Stalin, and Stalin told the russian troops, somthing like, dont give up one foot of territory.
The Nazis finaly took it, then whent to Moscow, but the Russian winter froze tanks, millions of Nazis starved and millions were killed in battle.
The eastern front is so infamous because that is where most of the fighting was done, NOT in the west where it was Britain and America.
Over 30 million Russians were killed on the eastern front, About 6 Million Nazis died there too.
Where as Britian and America lost about half a Million troops each, compeard to the nearly 40 million Russian and Nazis that died on the eastern front.
Horrible war crimes were commited by BOTH sides on the eastern front.
Even Britain and America on the western front commited war crimes, such as the revenge bombing after Germany had surrenderd. Where Britain and America continued bombing Germany after it had signed a treaty to stop the war, wich caused tens of thousands of innocent Germans to die.
