I have some questions about my mini horse.?
I have an 11 year old miniature horse gelding. He came w/a cart and harness and he is doing well with it. He also does well with jumping. But I am wondering am I asking too much of him? Also he doesn't know how to lounge. How can I train him to do it? Another question I have is...is grass hay ok? He eats it but we are at the point where we need to get him some more hay and our neighbor suggested that we get grass hay. So what should we get? Another thing...how do I train him to be ridden. Not by me but my niece rode him and he threw her off! And I don't want her getting hurt.
Please help.
I just wanted to add what I mean by "too much" is his age. He doesn't do this stuff every day or anything but I want to know if he is too old for it.

i have lots of ponys and brake them into ride and drive
ur horse is not old at 11 et as he has not broken in he mite think that lfe is all good with juts food and bits of running bout
you sas hes goodf at jumping yet he cant be lunged or ridden, do u take him in hand over the jump or free schooling
what i wold say o start braking him in is to get a lunge and clip it on to his headcollar and lead him round in a big circle each time moving awa a bit
once you have gt a good 3ft away from him and he is walking happil round makje sure he is relaxed with his head down and ears slouched
once ou have dun this over n over for a couple of weeks get a bridle with only a snaffle mouth and just let him wear it on the ard or stable [not field] for half n hour or so to get him use to it
once he is ok with this ou vcan start leading him with his bridle on but have a head coller on iover the top and controll with it attached to the head collar not the bit as could pla up / rear . once he is walking round relaxed clip this round his nosseband and through the rings on the bit and walk next to him relaxing him and make sure he is happ with this , the next thing ou do once he is getting oofd at this is have one of them lunging belts round his stomach that will put more wieght on him and see if he goes well with this if he starts buking and plaing up not a mean wa but liek it is hurting him mab get his back checked out just incase , after many weeks of him being ok with the harness mab try a light fitted saddle and just walked round slowl get thurther awa from him so he gets the idea of walking in a circle
also with the ha if hes eating it then surle he shud be ok mabe chech his poo and maje sure it brakes as it hits the ground and has no green in it
he is a shetland or a welsh pony
