If you're from Ellis county Texas, do you know when this railroad stopped running?
If you're a native from Waxahachie, Tx or Hillsboro, TX, and remember the MKT (Katy) railroad, you may know the answer to my question. The old MKT line use to run along 77 south of Waxahchie, Tx Ellis county to Hillsboro. Does anyone know when this line was discontinued and dismantled, because I remember vaguely as a very young child seeing BN trains rolling on it back in the early or mid 90's. It has really been nagging at me when this line was torn out, because when I drive along 77 I can see the remnents of the right-of-way and memories of the track actually come back to mind, but it really stupifies me how it seems that nothing was ever there at all, because nature takes back so fast, and I just want to know when that line stopped opperation and was demolitied.
Yes, I miss the MKT and their 'Industrial' green & yellow stripe paint scheme.

During the 'merger mania' years of the 1980's and 90's, MKT fell to the suction force of the UP. It was absorbed, taken over and quickly the Engines were painted, like as if the MKT disappeared off the face of the earth.
I was in Fort Worth, TX during the final days of the MKT, and got a few pictures of some of the locomotives lined up at the UP shops. Several of the MKT tracks were torn up and the UP continued to devour railroads. There is a jogging trail: 'Katy Trail', in downtown Dallas that was the line into the famous MKT yards that were behind the 'grassy knoll' from the Kennedy assassination.
What you see are the demise of what were once a profitable line, that was deemed as an 'unnecessary expense' by its rival. There were several other tracks in Dennison/Sherman & Trenton TX that were also torn up.
I have had to paint & decal several of my model railroad engines the MKT green. I Enjoyed them and thought they looked 'tough'.
But not tough enough to avoid the suction force of the great monster- UP.
