There is a lot of competition nowadays, especially for young models. Many companies and clients book younger models because they are easier to work with, they usually have lower rates and they have a freshness and vibrancy uncommon in older models. If you are a young model, you know how hard it can be to book good projects, meet great clients and get new modeling jobs. One thing you can do to increase your chances of getting noticed is to promote yourself and market yourself effectively. Below are some tips to get you started on a much better modeling career.
Start with social networking sites. With the millions of people using Facebook, there’s bound to be a client or an agency within your network of friends. Delete all crazy and embarrassing photos of yourself from your album. Upload decent photos or those that were used in your other jobs or photo shoots. You can also upload photos that you used in your modeling profile or set cards. Edit your account profile and put in words, books, or even quotes related to young models, modeling and fashion so people know you’re serious about your career.
Create an interesting website for yourself. A lot of young models have their own websites or blogs. Take Canadian model Coco Rocha, for instance. Her antics, candid photos and behind-the-scenes takes on different fashion shows have earned her many fans and followers. Update your website or your blog regularly, so people have something to look forward to every week or even every day. The photographs or videos you upload don’t entirely have to be about you. Put effort into your modeling set cards or “comp cards.” These cards should contain one close-up of your face (or what is referred to as a beauty shot), a full body shot and two or three random fashion shots. Your set cards should also contain your statistics (height, weight, measurements), hair and eye color and your nationality. Your set cards should also indicate the types of modeling jobs you prefer (commercial, ramp, TV, runways, etc).
Expand your network of friends. Check your social networking sites like Facebook or Myspace to see if there are other young models who use the same sites. Invite them to be your friends so your network becomes larger. These other models might be connected with agencies or clients and chances are, these people might see the photos you’ve uploaded on Facebook and book you for a job. You can also ask recommendations, like what jobs are available, from other models as well.
A model’s career, especially for teen-agers, can be difficult because of the competition. But you can be a cut above the rest by learning how to market yourself properly and using the Internet to promote yourself. Follow the tips outlined above to push your career further than you’ve ever imagined.
