Here are 5 tips to help you find the right space for the right price.
1. Sublet
When someone who’s locked into a lease unexpectedly needs to move before the lease is up, that person may need someone reliable to move in and pick up the costs. You’ll have a better chance of finding a suitable sublet if you’re flexible with location and living arrangements. Remember, good sublet opportunities go fast and if you find one, don’t hesitate. Be prepared with a down payment and solid references.
2. Share the space
Maybe you don’t want to share your space, but if sharing helps you stretch your budget, it’s something you may have to consider. In the best case scenario, you’ll end up with more space for less money and maybe even some new friends. But sometimes sharing is the only way to afford living near the city, so it’s a gamble you might have to take.
3. Rent Controlled
Rent controlled apartments under $1,000/month are out there, but rarely are they ever advertised. More often, they’re something you inherit.
