Sci Fi, Futuristic, Warhammer... Anything, just figures that I can paint?

Supporting a local game store is always a good idea. Depending on the miniatures you are looking at painting, you can compare the models side by side and look for details you might otherwise miss looking online. Plus, it does support the local economy.
If you are looking for miniatures online, a good source for many lines is Tabletop Gaming News. Reaper is a solid line, Citadel/ Warhammer makes some good models, and Privateer Press produce some great steampunk/ fantasy models.
As far as online retailers, The War Store is always good, Fantization, and Plycon's Keep usually have a lot of minis to choose from. There are many online store to choose from, and I would suggest searching for them through Tabletop Gaming News or by whichever model line you are interested in.
Really, it depends on what your preferences are, if you play a game, or are just looking to paint stuff. Reaper would fit the latter category, Games Workshop and Privateer Press would fit the former for the most part.
