Selling Your Car
The second hand car market always does well. Kids are always turning 18, families are getting bigger and having two cars is a must. If a family can’t afford a new car immediately, buying a good second hand car is a great option because of the price. So if your car is in good condition and can pass car inspection tests, you don’t need to worry about it not selling.
• You first need to advertise your car. You can post an ad on the internet, put an ad in the paper, pass out flyers in the neighbourhood or simply take it to a used car dealership. They will carry out the necessary tests and car inspections. If you don’t want to go through a middleman, just ask around and put up a few notices in the local grocery store. You are sure to find some buyers.
• Understand the second hand car market well. Sedans and SUVs have constant demand. Even a van will fetch you many buyers. Sports cars and convertibles have a niche audience and selling them may take more time. Also many people believe that sport cars are not easy on fuel so your sales pitch has to be great.
• The trick to selling your old car is to make it look like a new one. So spend some money and take care of a few details and make sure your paper work is in order. Remember the first impression is very important. Wash, wax and polish the car before a sale. Make sure the exterior of the car is dent and scratch free and don’t forget to clean the inside of the car well. Wipe the dust off the wheel covers and clean the tires. The windows should be clean and sparkling as well. If you have nothing to hide, have your mechanic make a report about the car and encourage the buyer to check it out. It will make them extremely comfortable.
• If you need to evaluate the price of the car you can ask you mechanics or hire an agency that specialises in car inspections. Selling a car involves bargaining and haggling so add a little more to your base price before making an offer. Remember, if you aren’t making a profit you have to at least break even.
• Let the buyer take a test drive, carry out any reasonable vehicle inspection and answer all his queries to the best of your ability. Once you agree on the price, make your payment terms clear and carry out the rest of the legalities. When handing the car over give the new owner all the papers, spare tire, tool kit and spare set of keys. Remember if anything happens to car after the sale it is not your responsibility and that’s because the buyer had a chance of a full car inspection before the purchase.
