Is Road Runner causing problems with the speed of my computer applications?
I got a brand new Dell computer for Christmas but did not have internet set up yet. I never used the computer often aside from a couple of times in which I turned it on to just look around and get it set up.
Around the middle of February, I had Road Runner Internet installed. Ever since the very day that I had Road Runner installed, my computer has been incredibely slow. Many times, my computer will even freeze up the moment I turn it on. As I stated, I have very rarely used the computer, have not installed but perhaps one software program, and have hardly used the internet. Could this problem be stemming from Road Runner or does it sound like I have other issues?
(I am not on that PC right now.)
No, the most likely reason that your computer has slowed down so much now that it is on the Internet is that you are likely infected with a bot and/or trojans and viruses. If that is the case (very likely), then someone else has control of your computer and is using it for bad stuff, as well as having access to all the information on your computer.
You need to scan your computer for bots, trojans, and viruses.

This will allow you to scan your entire computer for viruses, safely and securely, even if your computer is already infected, and will help you clean it.
Once you have your computer clean, you need to take steps to properly secure it. Install security software such as the free version of Zone Alarm, install and run anty-spyware such as Spybot and AdAware.
Finally, and most importantly, stop using Internet Explorer -- it's very insecure. Start using the Firefox Browser for surfing -- it's faster, more secure, and has better features. http://getfirefox.com
One last thing -- if viruses/trojans/bots are found on your computer, and you have accessed any of your credit card, savings, checking account, 401k, or any other financial websites, you should change the password to your accounts as soon as you get your computer clean, just in case.
