Last year my husband retired and had a lot more time on his hands. He gets on my nerves being in the house all day, so I asked him to find a pursuit. He enjoyed DIY and gardening, but it did not seem to excite him any more. They just were not suitable to keep him active

We looked at some clinched photographs and had a bit of a chuckle. There was one photo of him as a child standing next to a railway model. This prompted him to take up railway modelling as a leisure activity. There has continuously be the interest in trains so it would be a great way for him to relax.

He was ready to get started and show off to the grand kids. He wanted to explain and show off the whole set up to them. We have a spare room upstairs which was cleared out to make enough space for the kits he was going to order online.

The kits and various other bits arrived quickly. I should have taken a photograph of his face, he was so excited and keen to start. I hardly see him now, he locks himself away in the spare room for hours. I can hear him muttering and putting the parts together that make up a good model railway. When we go out, he's keen to get back home and begin the next phase of building his kits. He is terrifically happy now as he no longer watches the clock for hours on end.

He was looking at sites the other day on the computer. He was after other parts to add to his growing collection.
